The Greek Isles

This gorgeous group of islands, officially known as the Hellenic Republic, is located at the southern tip of the Balkan Peninsula, surrounded by the Aegean Sea, Ionian Sea, and Mediterranean Sea. Greece has the world's 10th longest coastline and approximately 1400 islands, 227 of which are inhabited. Greece has a mountainous terrain and temperate weather. While Greek is the official language, English is widely spoken. Its history is far-reaching and has the honor of being the birthplace of many vital social institutions, from democracy and philosophy to drama and the Olympics.
