Carnival's New Smoking Policy

We recently received an important update from Carnival regarding the onboard smoking policy.

We recently conducted guest surveys covering a wide range of topics. The feedback we received indicated the overwhelming majority of our guests prefer a smoke-free environment. In fact, nearly 90 percent of our guests are non-smokers, with only less than five percent opting to smoke in their staterooms.

Accordingly, as part of our ongoing commitment to keep in line with the personal preferences of our guests, we will be changing the smoking policy across our 23-ship fleet.

The new smoking policy will be rolled out in two stages:

• Effective today, cigarette smoking in public venues will only be permitted in Carnival's dance clubs as well as in designated areas within the casino and casino bar. Smoking (including cigars) will be permitted in designated exterior open deck areas of all our ships. Additionally, smoking will also be allowed in the jazz clubs of the following ships: Carnival Destiny, Carnival Triumph, Carnival Victory, Carnival Spirit, Carnival Pride, Carnival Legend, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Freedom, and Carnival Splendour.


• Effective December 2, 2011, smoking will be prohibited in all guest staterooms. Guests in balcony staterooms may smoke (including cigars) outside on their balcony. However, Spa suites and staterooms, inclusive of the balconies, will remain an entirely smoke-free environment. Guests who smoke in their staterooms will be assessed a $250 cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival's ticket contract.

Celebrity Silhouette debuts

The Celebrity Silhouette has recently emerged from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany and will debute on July 21 in Hamburg. She will begin her inaugural cruise on July 23 sailing seven nights to Rome. The 2,886 passenger ship is the fourth in the five-ship Solstice class.
New features include the Lawn Club Grille where you may enjoy outdoor grilling, a private cabana in The Alcoves, order food & wine from an iPad in Qsine, and experience up to 50 international craft beers at the enhanced Michael's Club.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (May 27, 2011) - Sea Princess recently hosted a group of 25 new graduates from Guide Dogs for the Blind and their owners for the day in San Francisco, to familiarize them with how Princess Cruises can accommodate visually impaired travelers and their canine companions. The group was able to enjoy a tour of the ship and lunch in the dining room, while learning how Princess can provide for their needs and those of their dogs. The event was hosted in association with Dimensions in Travel, a travel agency that regularly organizes travel for Guide Dogs for the Blind clients, to give new guide dog users a feel for what to expect if they join one of the agency's group cruises, or travel independently. Since 2004, Princess has hosted 11 Guide Dogs for the Blind groups on cruises to destinations such as Mexico and Alaska. "Working with these clients has changed the way we travel," said Diana Saint James, owner of Dimensions in Travel. "It's not all about what we see when we travel anymore – it's all of our senses. That's what our relationship with our blind travelers has taught us. It's a different way to see the world." Aboard Sea Princess guests were able to test out many of the special features offered for visually impaired travelers and their dogs. For the dogs, the ships provide special life jackets, bowls of water in the dining room, and relieving boxes with favored cedar chips. Passengers also have specially translated menus and can enjoy reserved seating in the Princess Theater with room for their dogs. During a cruise, passengers and crew are also invited to meet the dogs during a designated play time. "These dogs are canine heroes," said Brian Rademacher, Princess Cruises district sales manager.
